AODC 2001 - Canberra
AODC 2001 was held at Rydges Lakeside Hotel in Canberra in late March,
and was attended by close to 130 professionals involved in corporate
documentation, hypertext development, Web authoring and technical writing.
The Conference covered a vast and varied array of online documentation
topics. Highlights included the unveiling of Microsoft's new HTML Help system, Microsoft
Help 2.0, a thought provoking session on building help systems for children,
and a presentation on building accessibility into corporate documentation and
help systems. The hyperactive sessions by "Uncle" Dave Gash were
remarkable for the mix of entertainment and education.
The four "tractor steam" sessions demonstrated how the presence of
a red vintage tractor in the hotel forecourt can make sense at a documentation
conference!
But as well as gaining valuable insights and techniques at conference
sessions, registrants were able enjoy the many benefits of socialising and
discussing topics of interest with other delegates from around Australia and the
world. Social events included a Damper and Champers evening, complete with open
top double decker bus ride. The Who Helps Wins trivia night will not be
forgotten quickly by the many who competed for the trivial prizes! Many informal
meals and outings were enjoyed by old friends and new friends alike.
If you missed AODC 2001, don't make the same mistake again!
